Bringing Books and Stories for Everyone

Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile offers programs and services to all the communities in Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. We offer mobile library service to people of all ages who are unable to access their communities library.  Our library has books and resources for children and adult readers. For more information about any of our programs or to find out how the bookmobile can visit you please email info@fgibookmobile. org

READ! LIRE! LEER!

Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile has a collection of bi-lingual books so everyone in the county can read together! Our bilingual collection has books for all ages and includes books in Spanish and French.

We work with local farms to bring migrant farm workers books and stories for their families. Our program brings the library to the farm. If you know someone in Franklin or Grand Isle County in need of bilingual books email info@fgibookmobile.org

We will come to you

Would you like to hire the bookmobile to run a program at your site? We partner with local public and school libraries at no or low cost. We’ll be setting up a child care route that will not cost providers or families, either. But we can also enrich community functions and provide children and adults in group settings with literary enrichment and fun and travel to schools and libraries outside of our region for a negotiable fee or through a local sponsor.

Youth Literacy Services

The Bookmobile has a circulating collection of over 9000 books for children, teens and adults, including a large parenting and educator resource collection. In 2018 we visited more than 40 sites delivering storytime and other educational programming to kids at child care centers and homes, community events and through partnerships in the region in addition to lending out materials more than 22,000 times.

Youth Book Club

The Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile began hosting virtual book clubs for local students in January 2021. These book clubs offer young readers a chance to interact with new genres and other readers. The use of zoom has allowed the bookmobile to bring these opportunities to more communities and reach more students. Since beginning our book clubs, we have had meaningful discussion with local youth, and provided them with extra learning opportunities.

All students that sign up for our book club receive a free copy of the book we are reading to keep. Meetings include discussions about the book, games, writing prompts, and the occasional movie.

This book club is a wonderful opportunity to connect virtually with local youth and discuss the important and necessary topics.

In R. J. Palacio’s bestselling collection of stories Auggie & Me, which expands on characters in Wonder, readers were introduced to Julian’s grandmother, Grandmère. Here, Palacio makes her graphic novel debut with Grandmère’s heartrending story: how she, a young Jewish girl, was hidden by a family in a Nazi-occupied French village during World War II; how the boy she and her classmates once shunned became her savior and best friend.

Sara’s harrowing experience movingly demonstrates the power of kindness to change hearts, build bridges, and even save lives. As Grandmère tells Julian, “It always takes courage to be kind, but in those days, such kindness could cost you everything.”

Little Readers

Now accepting new patrons for 2024

Our Little Readers Program provides books, stories, and programming to the youngest of our readers. From birth through elementary school, the bookmobile will come to you with our mobile library and armed with fun! We strive to provide children with a foundation in the skills necessary to thrive once they begin school.

A typical visit will include a story and a song or dance to get the wiggles out. In nice weather we also will do a short activity to bring the story to life. Our program chooses books and literacy concepts that are age appropriate with the goal of creating a life log love of reading.

This program is open to anyone caring for children: parents, grand parents, neighbors, childcare centers and homeschool groups. For questions email info@fgibookmobile.org

After School and Summer Programs

We look forward to partnering with afterschool programs, school libraries, public libraries and community service agencies in the future, as well as continuing with our child care routes and summer festivities and partnerships. Our staff can provide structured enrichment activity time tailored to the ages in the group and the interests/themes the kids are exploring. We have Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math (“STEAM”) materials as well as award-winning picture books, audio books, easy readers, chapter books, juvenile fiction, young adult novels and fiction for adults as well as an up-to-date nonfiction collection and access to digital resources through our website.
