Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile is looking for someone who can have fun and share their love of reading with the region! We are a mobile library and literacy organization in Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. We are unique in our region and travel to our patrons. We bring books, information, and lots of smiles to people in all walks of life. Due to our unique structure we are different from traditional brick and mortar libraries. Library experience is helpful but what is more important is the understanding of the wonder of childhood, what makes a toddler tick, and how to get the wiggles out. We are willing to train the right person.

Purpose of Position:

The Program Coordinator provides support to ensure that Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile (FGI Bookmobile) provides programs and services throughout the Franklin and Grand Isle Counties in order to promote reading, literacy, and lifelong learning. The Program Coordinator is responsible for understanding, engaging, and communicating with patrons and community members as well as engaging young patrons with age appropriate dynamic content. While this position will work primarily with youth, there is the possibility of visiting some older community members. This is an in-person position that has some flexibility in it. Most of the time, this position will be on the bookmobile and traveling throughout the region. This position is a mandated reporter for any and all suspected abuse and neglect.

Qualifications:

  • Interpersonal communication and occasional public speaking required.
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Love or reading and/or books of all kinds
  • Experience with children of all ages.
  • Patient and understanding of differences in backgrounds, culture and age groups.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to submit personal driving record.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to family literacy and community collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comfort and understanding of people as individuals
  • Understanding of child development and behavior.
  • Willingness to be silly, play, and communicate on a kids level.
  • Familiarity with Google Business Suite.
  • Comfortable with driving a large vehicle.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop lesson plans for age appropriate literacy activities to support story time, book discussion groups, and enrichment activities for all ages and abilities.
  • Choosing age appropriate literacy materials for youth ages infant-high school.
  • Assisting with Bookmobile routes.
  • Maintain knowledge of childcare needs and Franklin/Grand Isle communities.
  • Assist with organization of library materials and cataloging.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities may also include:

  • Outreach to community partners including local libraries, local businesses, childcare providers, etc.…
  • Support virtual book clubs for middle grade youth by planning activities, community outreach and leading discussion topics.
  • Assist in Creating monthly blog posts and newsletter content.

Physical Responsibilities

1) Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs

2) Ability to drive the bookmobile in daylight and after dark

This position is currently 10 hours a week but may increase in the future.

Job Title: Communications and Development AmeriCorps Vista

Reports To: Executive Director 

Purpose of Position:

The Communications and Development AmeriCorps Vista (CDAV) provides support to ensure that Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile (FGI Bookmobile) is visible throughout the Franklin and Grand Isle Counties in order to promote community support. The CDAV is responsible for understanding, engaging, and communicating with patrons and community members as well as creating compelling messages to communicate to build capacity and community engagement. This position is a mandated reporter for any and all suspected abuse and neglect. 

Qualifications:

  • Interpersonal communication and occasional public speaking required.
  • Verbal and written communication 
  • Understanding of social media trends and experienced with various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest  
  • Love or reading and/or books of all kinds
  • Patient and understanding of differences in backgrounds, culture and age groups.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to submit personal driving record.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to family literacy and community collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comfort and understanding of people as individuals 
  • Web design including website, blog, and newsletters
  • Social media including Tik Tok, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest
  • Knowledge of video production, photography, and/or basic graphic design.
  • Speaks Spanish
  • Experience with Children
  • Comfortable with driving a large vehicle.
  • Understanding and experience in fundraising, grant writing, and event planning.

  4. Volunteer management-including the recruitment, training, and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers.
  5. Social media including Tik Tok, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Youtube.
  6. Familiarity with WordPress.
  7. Attending monthly board meetings. 
  8. Outreach to community partners including local libraries, local businesses, childcare providers, etc… 
  9. Creating and planning programming for youth.
  10. Assisting with fundraising events. 
  11. Assisting with Bookmobile routes.
  12. Create monthly blog posts and assist with newsletter content.
  13. Maintain knowledge of childcare needs and Franklin/Grand Isle communities.
  14.  Write and apply for non-federal grants and in-kind donation requests.
  15. Assist with organization of library materials and cataloging. 
  16. Other tasks as assigned.

Job Title: Communication Intern

Reports To: Executive Director 

Purpose of Position:

The CI is responsible for understanding, engaging, and communicating with patrons and community members as well as creating compelling messages to communicate to build capacity and community engagement. This position is a mandated reporter for any and all suspected abuse and neglect. 

Qualifications: 

  1. Experience in marketing and promoting nonprofits, community organizations, or libraries. 
  2. Experience with graphic design programs like Adobe Suite, Canva or the equivalent. 
  3. Experience with social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, etc. 
  4. Experience with Mailchimp for newsletters and communicating with audiences 
  5. Grasp of website and social media analytics to track and monitor the success of campaigns.  
  6. A strong commitment to family literacy and community collaboration 
  7. Valid Driver’s license and willing to submit personal driving record. 
  8. An acceptable background check to work in public schools. 
  9. Familiarity with Franklin and Grand Isle communities preferred. 

Responsibilities include: 

  1. Ensures consistent look, style, and feel for communications and educating staff on brand. 
  2. Developing a system for monitoring and listening to community feedback.
  3. Create FGI Bookmobile communications in a variety of formats: press releases, social media, blog, etc.
  4. Document through photographs and video events and programs as needed
  5. Work with the Executive Director to develop a communications plan
  6. Create marketing material to promote events (literacy, awareness, etc.) as needed, this includes Facebook events, flyers, press releases, etc.
  7. Other duties as assigned.
