Little Reader's Program
The Little Readers Program is a joyful, literacy-rich experience designed for children from birth through age six. As part of the Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile’s mission to promote early literacy, this program brings books, stories, and engaging educational experiences directly to children in childcare centers, preschools, and at home across Franklin and Grand Isle Counties.
At the heart of the program is a commitment to helping children become kindergarten ready. Through regular visits every three weeks, our team leads interactive story time sessions that are paired with hands-on activities to reinforce key learning concepts. These sessions are carefully crafted to support the development of early literacy skills such as rhyming, letter recognition, and oral language. Children learn to listen, speak, and engage with stories in ways that build vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.
We also emphasize social-emotional growth, using books that explore friendship, empathy, and resilience. Families and caregivers receive tips and tools to continue the learning at home, making reading a shared and joyful experience.
We also work closely with families, caregivers, and educators, offering guidance and resources to encourage reading at home. By making high-quality, content rich books and literacy experiences accessible to all the Little Readers Program ensures that every child has the opportunity to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Virtual Book Club
The Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile’s Virtual Book Club brings young readers together across Franklin and Grand Isle Counties for page-turning adventures and spirited conversations—all from home!
Every participant gets their own free copy of the selected book, so no one’s left behind in the plot twists. Through Zoom meetups, students dive into exciting discussions, spark creativity with writing prompts, play games, and sometimes kick back with a movie that ties into the book. There’s space for every kind of reader—from fantasy fans to deep-thinkers.
Started in 2021, the club has grown into a space where imaginations thrive, friendships form, and stories come to life. It’s more than a book club—it’s a virtual hangout powered by books, voices, and curiosity.
After School and Summer Programs
Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile brings the excitement of reading, creativity, and discovery straight to local schools—right where the fun happens. Through afterschool and summer partnerships, our team rolls up with books, materials, and big energy for hands-on experiences that kids won’t forget.
Whether we’re diving into literacy activities, launching into STEAM explorations, or taking a storytelling journey around the world’s cultures, every visit is tailored to the group and the moment. No need to come to us—we commute to school campuses across Franklin and Grand Isle Counties, making learning more accessible, engaging, and joyful.
With each program, we create a space where kids can read, imagine, build, and connect. It’s learning that moves—with wheels, heart, and a whole lot of curiosity.
School District Partnerships
Partnering with local schools is at the heart of the Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile’s mission to ignite a love of reading and learning in every child. Through shared literacy initiatives, including book giveaways, engaging school and community events, and interactive reading challenges, we fuel students’ imaginations. We work hand-in-hand with educators to to spark enthusiasm for reading and build strong literacy foundations across the community. We offer parent/guardian resources that support literacy at home—empowering caregivers to be reading role models and champions for learning. Together, we’re creating a vibrant culture of literacy that reaches beyond the classroom and into the heart of every home.
